Learning Support at Kallangur State School
At Kallangur we have two Learning Support teachers. The Response to Intervention Model is used for student support. Data is analysed to determine the optimum supports for the learning of all students.
Differentiation
Each classroom teacher differentiates lessons across all Key Learning Areas dependent on student’s academic abilities. Learning goals are set for children that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant / results-based and time-bound.
Support
Learning support is provided in Reading, Writing and Number. Students work in small groups with teacher aides trained by Learning Support teachers.
Extension
Each teacher extends the learning of children in their class on a daily basis. In addition the Learning Support teacher provides extension Maths classes for students in Years 3 to 6.
Before School Reading
Four days a week before school we offer additional Reading in small groups with our teacher aides. Children selected are those who can benefit from additional practice to develop their reading and comprehension skills.
Home Reading
We offer home reading across the school – for Prep to Year 3 for all children and for Years 4 to 6 for those children who are deemed by the classroom teacher to require this additional practice.
Parent Information
We provide sessions for parents which are advertised in the Newsletter. As well, information packs for Reading, Writing and Number are available.
